Recoveryworks was initiated by the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) in Huntington, WV. They provide free educational programs with a holistic approach. The programs are available to formerly incarcerated people who were affected by the opioid epidemic and are the residents of Ohio, Kentucky, or West Virginia. The 4-week programs offer industry training, preparing candidates for manufacturing job opportunities.
The participants receive hands-on machinist training, an $8 per hour salary upon the completion of the program, peer counseling to support emotional development, and soft-skills education that prepares them to successfully re-enter the workforce.
“RecoveryWorks provides a structured pathway for workforce re-entry. Participants must be affected by the opioid epidemic in some way, either in recovery themselves or dealing with or having dealt with family or friends struggling with substance use disorder.” - Carol Howerton, RCBI senior strategic advisor for workforce development
